Wash face twice a day with acne soap
You should wash your face twice a day or whenever you can with a soap designed for acne. Once when you first wake up in the morning and then, right before you go to bed at night. Over washing your skin will actually increase your acne because your sebaceous glands to produce more sebum.
Keep hair and hands off your face
Do not touch your hands without them being clean. Your hands can have anything from oil to dirt, thus increasing your acne. If you have long hair, pull your hair off your face. Your hair contains oils, and will contribute to your acne. You will also want to wash your hair and hands everyday.
Avoid wearing makeup
Leaving makeup on your skin only helps to clog your pores, causing more acne and blackheads. If you must use makeup, get the water based makeup.
Drink a lot of water
Drinking water is needed for clean skin and your health. Water is needed for carrying waste and unneeded material out of your body.
Don’t pick your blackheads and pimples
Do not squeeze, scratch, rub or touch your pimples and blackheads. Doing this increases the sebum production. When you squeeze, you are actually damaging the membranes below your skin, causing infection and sebum to spread underneath your skin, thus getting more acne.
Wash your pillow case frequently
Your face touches your pillow case every day. Your pillow case absorbs the oils from your face, so even if you wash your face before going to sleep, it can still get dirty from your pillow. Keep your blankets and pillow cases clean.
Be Patient
Be patient, clearing your skin takes time. Unfortunately this doesn't happen overnight. Results are seen in a few weeks or more. Acne does not go away overnight. So give your acne treatment a chance before thinking it doesn't work.
Contact a Dermatologist
A dermatologist is a doctor who studies conditions and diseases of the skin. If you are having a rough time treating your acne, it might be best to contact a dermatologist. A dermatologist will evaluate your skin type and recommend an acne treatment that is best for your skin.
Do not overuse treatments
If you use more acne treatment than directed by your doctor you can actually worsen your acne. Most acne treatments contain ingredients such as benzoyl, peroxide and/or salicylic acid. Too much can cause your skin to become dry. It can take time for your skin to adapt to new treatments. Remember that it may weeks before you see the results. Use the medication exactly as directed by your doctor or the product.
